A solid budget platformer and the best Bubsy game ever made, featuring genuinely satisfying controls and speedrunning depth, though hampered by underbaked level design and sparse environments.

A genuine surprise that finally makes Bubsy good, this short, breezy 3D platformer nails fast, expressive movement, with the new hairball mode and chainable abilities making the cat feel great to control. Across three planets and roughly 15 varied stages there's not a single bad level, backed by fun bosses, collectibles, time trials, online ghost races, and a pleasant art style and soundtrack. The main gripe is its brevity, but at $20 it's a steal.

The game is a functional improvement over Bubsy 3D but lacks meaningful challenge or personality, with gameplay that feels janky and mechanics that are poorly integrated.

  • GamingBolt👎 negative

Bubsy 4D is better than previous Bubsy games but falls short of being a truly compelling 3D platformer, with significant flaws in level design, platforming mechanics, and controls that prevent a whole-hearted recommendation.
