The PS5 remake delivers significantly polished visuals and fast loading over the PS3 original, and as the prototype for Dark Souls and Bloodborne it is genuinely engaging for fans. However, its five hub-linked areas suffer from too-easy, gimmicky bosses and dated frustrations like cramped inventory limits and a clunky dual-shard upgrade system. Stingy checkpoints and a half-health death penalty make it harder than expected for newcomers, leaving its present-day purpose unclear.
