An incredibly impressive first effort and a tightly crafted Souls-like boss-rush game that is frustrating but fair and rewarding, with excellently designed encounters and a clever health system tied to landing heavy attacks. Flexible classes, free respeccing, and a touch of metroidvania exploration add depth, and the 16-bit pixel art and banging boss soundtracks shine. Responsive controls and strong value round it out, with the only real wish being a few side enemies between the bosses.
