An astonishingly ambitious history simulator covering nearly 500 years and over 27,000 provinces, with a deeply interconnected pop and economic simulation that creates emergent, organic stories and is celebrated as unlike anything else. However, it ships unfinished and buggy, with passive AI that makes the world feel less historically dynamic, opaque systems, and special situations like the Italian crisis that break in odd ways. Hard to wholeheartedly recommend right now, it is framed as a years-long project worth supporting for those who love the depth and trust Paradox's long-term patching.
Our analysis
An unambiguous wonder from a systems perspective, simulating every individual person across the 1337-1837 period at unprecedented detail, with rich population, terrain, and trade mechanics that make managing a nation deeply engrossing. The foundation is very strong and performance is surprisingly solid, but it is hurting for polish in balance, tuning, and AI behavior, often producing ahistorical, implausible outcomes. A remarkable but not-quite-finished epic best approached by grand strategy veterans.
