10 of 10A very strong port that runs and looks superb on Switch 2, arguably the best-looking third-party game on the system, with stunning in-engine cutscenes and a stable 30fps that suits its scope. The real-time, action-focused combat with its elegant slow-mo command menu and character swapping is satisfying and a refreshing evolution of the turn-based roots. Drawbacks are minor: some stretched-feeling pacing in spots, a slightly clunky aiming feel when controlling Barret, and mild dithering on Cloud's hair from upscaling.
Impressive visual remake with excellent environments and particle effects. Inconsistent side characters.
Stunning modern remake with excellent combat, stretched with unnecessary filler quests. Only covers first 10% of original.
Excellent Switch 2 port of FF7 Remake running on Unreal 4. Targets 30fps locked, outstanding visual quality for handheld/docked. Minor optimization compromises but overall stellar effort.
A soaring, heartfelt retelling of the opening Midgar arc with sharp, well-acted writing, genuine humor, and standout combat that blends real-time action with strategic ATB-command depth. The expanded length gives characters room to breathe, though Midgar's open-world hubs feel disconnected, side quests are generic, and several chapters drag with padding, reused areas, and slow gimmicks. Even at its most linear and stretched, it remains a deeply enjoyable, lovingly crafted experience.
Visually stunning with fun character moments, but padded playtime and confused storytelling.
Phenomenal story/setting and 50hr value; combat hit-or-miss with weak AI companions. Day-one for fans.
Big-budget lengthy episodic remake with great action-RPG combat, stunning Midgar and incredible care; minor camera and pop-in issues.
9/10 Badass Seal. Faithful beautiful 40+ hour remake — combat, music, presentation top-notch. Highly recommended even for non-RPG fans.
An excellent, ambitious reimagining of the beloved classic that retells the Midgar chapter with new content and looks better than ever. The action-strategy combat blends real-time battles with the returning ATB gauge and flexible materia system superbly, and the cast is portrayed perfectly with strong interactions. Some technical issues like texture pop-in and an occasionally troublesome camera hold it back slightly, but it culminates in a satisfying, complete arc.

“An exceptional expansion of the Midgar section with outstanding narrative depth, character development, and creative content. The creator considers it worth the full $60 price tag despite covering only part of the original story.”
