2 of 2The campaign is genuinely fun and even unexpectedly funny, with athletic, physics-driven gunplay that rewards practice and encourages players to find a role like a team sport. Competitive multiplayer delivers coherent, intense firefights decided by accuracy, combos, and mind games rather than split-second deaths. The serious war-movie story clashes with the comedic chaos of the gameplay, creating a jarring tonal confusion, and it leans predictable.
A deeply disappointing, unstable release that is a rare do-not-buy and even do-not-try recommendation despite some genuinely good visuals and excellent sound and music. The game crashes constantly, corrupts save files, and ships with broken matchmaking and abysmal multiplayer, while the anniversary remasters suffer severe juddering, wild frame-rate drops, and colored lighting that obscures items. For one of Microsoft's flagship franchises, it is an unplayable, poorly optimized mess.
