Our analysis
A gorgeous, melodious, and tactically rich turn-based strategy classic that still shines more than a decade on, best played in the Complete Edition. Its eight viable faction-towns, deep spell and artifact systems, and exploitable mechanics reward experimentation and punish convention, with overpowered tactics like Armageddon rushing, Necromancy snowballing, and Diplomacy being part of the appeal. Endlessly replayable and comfy in single-player, though multiplayer balance is a mess.
