WatchOur analysis
A legendary 2001 game with coolest-of-its-era design and excellent writing, but marred by broken difficulty scaling, tedious dream sequences, and excessive filler levels that drag down the later game experience.
Grimbeard👍 positive
WatchOur analysis
Grimbeard considers Max Payne an important game that showcases what a passionate, small team can accomplish through thoughtful storytelling and a unique voice. Despite its simplicity in gameplay (focusing purely on shooting with bullet time), the game's rich noir narrative, quotable writing, and self-aware tone elevate it beyond a typical action shooter.

WatchOur analysis
Revisiting the original Max Payne, the creator found it much more enjoyable than remembered from childhood, appreciating its focused design compared with the padding of many modern games.
