5 of 5A fantastic, faithful Unreal Engine 5 remake that restores rather than reinvents a stealth-action classic, leaving its intricate sandbox details, voice performances, and quirky humor intact while looking phenomenal. New conveniences like easier camo swapping and the Snake versus Monkey mode are welcome enhancements. The one minor drawback is that the optional modern control scheme makes combat too easy and saps tension, though the original scheme is available; an excellent jumping-on point.
Technically rough across all platforms, but the PC version is the best way to play thanks to user control over settings, solid mouse support, and an absence of the traversal stutter common to Unreal Engine 5 titles. It is hampered by a 60fps cap with poor frame pacing, no ultrawide support, sparse graphics options, and surprisingly heavy GPU and CPU demands for a remake of a PS2 game. With a strong enough modern system, and aided by mods, it can run well, but it lacks many expected PC niceties.
A safe, slavishly faithful remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 that preserves the original's story, cutscenes, and voice work while adding an Unreal Engine 5 visual upgrade and smoother, less stiff movement. Standout new character models and improved CQC stand out, though the cover system feels weak and unreliable, the frame rate isn't rock-solid, and some industrial interiors look unremarkable. Overall an honorable, well-handled remake.
A hard sell at full price, faithfully reviving the 2004 game without overhauling its dated foundations. The controls are clunky and not fully configurable, the third-person camera obstructs interiors, and the stealth and AI feel brain-dead, while the writing and characters come across as cringeworthy. It runs smoothly, looks decent, and is unintentionally hilarious, so longtime franchise fans chasing nostalgia may enjoy it even though it disappoints as a modern stealth-action game.
A loving and successful complete rebuild that makes a classic feel alive again. The stunning visuals, smoother movement, and over-the-shoulder aiming modernize the experience while the original's stellar stealth and story remain its heart and soul. Drawbacks include a sticky cover system, boss fights trivialized by the improved controls, a needlessly re-recorded theme, and minor visual artifacts, but the reverence for the source material shines through.

“A faithful and well-executed remake that respectfully preserves the original game while adding modern visual polish and improved controls. Though performance issues and minor design changes disappoint, the core experience remains compelling.”

“A beat-for-beat remake that preserves the original's story and charm but fails to meaningfully improve upon it, with changes that often make things worse rather than better—ultimately a valid way to experience MGS3 for first-timers but not compelling for returning players.”
Watch Second Wind👎 negative
“A comedic but scathing critique of this remaster, which the reviewer dismisses as a lazy copy-paste with minimal improvements and a cash grab. The game is plagued by clunky controls, incoherent storytelling, and tonal shifts that undermine its ambitious ideas.”
