An exceptionally stylish boomer shooter with incredible 1920s rubber hose animation art direction and engaging noir storytelling. Fast-paced, satisfying combat and excellent world-building elevate it beyond a simple homage, making it a standout indie release despite minor underutilized mechanics.
Our analysis
An ambitious indie game that delivers on style, substance, and soul with a 15-hour campaign that never compromises on its handdrawn aesthetic. The noir narrative surprised with genuine depth, and while gameplay follows familiar Doom-like patterns, the world-building and character moments create something truly special.
Our analysis
A fun, frantic first-person shooter that nails its 1930s rubber-hose cartoon art style and jazzy period atmosphere, with a great arsenal including a standout Tommy gun and a satisfying acid weapon. Enemy AI is weak and just charges at you, level layouts are predictable and claustrophobic, and the inability to rebind movement keys is a real annoyance, but it runs great and stays enjoyable throughout. Well worth the price.
Our analysis
Hybrid noir mystery shooter with rubber-hose animation and excellent voice acting; tight gunplay.
Our analysis
A tremendous modern take on the boomer shooter with wonderful level design and exploration freedom, but falls short as a true detective fantasy due to lack of player agency in meaningful narrative choices.
Our analysis
A competently made boomer shooter with exceptional art style and voice acting, but marred by repetitive combat, excessive length, and too much padding that makes it tedious to play in long bursts despite solid core mechanics.
However, for me, I'll tell you again, it's 8.5 out of 10, because I simply had a comparison and I enjoyed playing the PlayStation 5 version more.About
