A surprisingly robust free-to-play console MMO with stellar, action-oriented combat, a flexible leveling and customization system, fast load times, fast working PvP, and a fair monetization model that doesn't lock players out of content. It's held back by drab, forgettable quest writing, severe frame-rate drops in the main city, no mini-map, and an overcomplicated tangle of currencies. Worth checking out, especially since it costs nothing to try.

Our analysis
Neverwinter Online starts with excellent action combat and a solid leveling experience, but devolves into a predatory pay-to-win system with lazy development, recycled content, and increasingly greedy monetization. While the core gameplay remains good, the underlying systems are fundamentally broken.
