A genuinely fun Souls-like that earns praise for trying something different, blending Metroidvania traversal with a novel Mage-hunting mechanic and excellent, grotesque boss designs. Post-launch fixes like restored fast travel and replenished health files smooth over earlier frustrations, and it runs smoothly at 60fps on Switch with responsive controls. It doesn't match the first game's sense of isolation and otherness since you feel faster and stronger, but it's well worth checking out for genre fans.
Our analysis
A frustrating 2D souls-like let down by sluggish platforming, unfair boss fights with unblockable projectile barrages and insta-kill combos, and a convoluted, poorly tutorialized crafting and leveling system. The hand-drawn art is nice and the core combat is decent, but poor exploration and constant aggravation make it hard to recommend.
Our analysis
A worthy follow-up to Salt and Sanctuary that blends metroidvania exploration, souls-like combat, and Monster Hunter-style mage hunts into an addictive package. Level and enemy design shine and the price is generous, though character progression and skill trees feel under-polished and the story is forgettable. The co-op and replay value make it an easy recommendation for fans of the genre.
