A sad, depressing failure rather than a charmingly bad one. Playing as a weak, pathetic Smeagol doing slave labor for Orcs makes for joyless objectives, ugly graphics, clumsy climbing, and broken, infinitely-respawning stealth sections. The premise itself is the least fun idea imaginable, and there's no hope or escape from the misery.

Gameplay is reduced to tedious crouching, hiding, and unreliable controls, compounded by crashes and a corrupt save — best avoided even by series fans.

The story setup, soundtrack, and the Gollum/Smeagol arguing mechanic show some promise, but the dated faces and animation, repetitive five-minute gameplay loop of tailing and sneaking past enemies, brutal checkpointing, and an outright crash undercut any goodwill. It feels like a perpetual tutorial with little to actually love.
