Our analysis
A hack-and-slash action-adventure with a gorgeous, unsettling pixel-art world, a marvelous soundtrack and a gripping, history-rich story full of factions and karma-shifting choices. Unfortunately the combat undercuts it: sword inputs are imprecise and require excessive mashing, special-meter and ability restrictions feel counterintuitive, and many enemies regenerate health, making fights exhausting. Pacing also drags as narrative payoffs demand combing the large map, leaving a beautiful, well-written game hampered by frustrating mechanics.
