Our analysis

A well-constructed, story-heavy tactical war epic with unique scenarios that constantly challenge you over a 30-40 hour campaign, delivering the proper sequel fans of the original wanted. The hybrid turn-based system with real-time movement and direct control sets it apart, though the real-time aiming feels more like a novelty than a deep mechanic and the unruly soldier customization plus an overbearing story-to-gameplay ratio are minor drawbacks. It won't sway anyone who disliked previous outings, but those who enjoy the style will find a lot to love.

Our analysis

An absolutely fantastic return to the original game's format, improving on nearly every aspect with a strong, emotionally engaging story and gorgeous interactive-anime art. The blend of third-person aiming and turn-based strategy shines, backed by deep class, equipment, and tech-tree systems plus great English voice work. The only real drawback is sluggish story pacing between battles, with long stretches of cutscenes interrupting the action.

Our analysis

A welcome return to the mainline series and a strong, polished entry. The tactical battle system is excellent and remains the highlight, balanced well against light management and visual-novel storytelling. It plays very similarly to the 2008 original rather than reinventing anything, but the likable cast and refined combat make it arguably the best of the series and a great starting point for newcomers.

Our analysis

An excellent throwback that embraces the original's roots while ramping up the formula with larger battlefields, more units, and deeper strategy. The notebook presentation, soundtrack, and sense of accomplishment all shine, and the war-focused story lands some genuinely emotional moments. Lingering issues persist, namely weak enemy AI, no harder difficulty for veterans, and clumsy tank navigation, but the magic clearly endures.
