Creative atmosphere and drug mechanics but plagued by inconsistent graphics and technical issues.
Our analysis
A mixed bag set in an alternate 1964 dystopian England where citizens stay sedated on a drug called Joy. The world, story, characters, and atmosphere are genuinely charming and kept worth pushing through, but the gameplay disappoints with simple, unpolished melee combat, basic stealth, awkward survival systems, and glitchy, low-budget moments. Best suited to those who prize narrative; worth watching more footage before buying.
Our analysis
Set in the unnervingly jolly town of Wellington Wells in an alternate 1964, this game presents an entrancing world buoyed by exceptional voice acting and interesting characters. It is held back considerably by easily exploitable AI, repetitive fetch-quest missions, half-realized survival and disguise mechanics, and an overstuffed length, alongside notable bugs and texture pop-in. The strong story and atmosphere only partly offset the lesser qualities.
Our analysis
A genuinely good linear game stretched awkwardly over a weak open-world survival blueprint, where the charming, well-designed main and side missions clash with an empty, unexplorable world and a frustrating NPC aggression system. The melee combat and stealth are serviceable but shallow, the survival mechanics feel pointless and easy to ignore, and a lack of polish plus fluctuating framerate weigh it down, leaving a lopsided experience of high highs and low lows.
Our analysis
A clever premise with genuinely sharp satire of British identity and an intriguing retro-dystopian setting, but it is undermined by hollow execution. The procedurally generated open world is empty filler stuffed between fixed story beats, the stealth mechanics are trivially bypassed, and the whole thing is riddled with bugs. Good ideas buried under rubbish in the name of openness.
