A competent retro JRPG throwback elevated by its memorable, trippy late-90s world and constantly surprising scenarios. The timing-based minigame combat, with the ability to speed up and slow down time, plays off itself cleverly and stays largely enjoyable, though it can grow repetitive and drag after dozens of similar encounters. Varied environments and a meta, paranormal story keep it hard to put down, making it more than the sum of its parts.
