  Our analysis

Donkey Kong Country is a great platformer with sublime controls, rewarding jumps and wonderful audio. Weak enemies and bosses, camera limitations and trial-and-error hazards keep it from being a masterpiece, but genre fans should own it.

  Our analysis

A masterpiece retrospective that revolutionized 16-bit gaming through immersive design, innovative physics-based gameplay, organic level design, and groundbreaking soundtrack composition. Rare's dissonant approach to platformer design set it apart from Nintendo's conventions and saved the company from technological obsolescence.
