After years of stripped-down Legacy Edition ports, the Switch version finally achieves full feature parity with other platforms, swapping the ancient engine for Frostbite and delivering complete Ultimate Team, Volta, smoother animations, and modern visuals. The trade-offs are a drop to 30 FPS and a tiny, separate transfer market that hampers Ultimate Team trading. Even so, it stands as one of the best football games ever released on a Nintendo system.

A big step up for the series on Switch thanks to the Frostbite engine, with much-improved player models, locked 30fps gameplay and a full version of Ultimate Team, career mode and new PlayStyles. Downsides include frame drops to the mid-20s during cutscenes that can look odd with camera shake, no crossplay, no real international tournament, wooden commentary and a mandatory large download. Overall a fun, full-fat football game that's the best the series has looked on the platform.

Transfer cutscenes are repetitive and annoying, with the same animations reused for every club and the exit sequences feeling awkward and immersion-breaking.
