The remake shows decent improvement and gameplay potential but fails as a faithful recreation of Combat Evolved, instead becoming a chaotic mashup of assets and mechanics from multiple Halo games that undersells half the original experience by omitting multiplayer.
ACG rates Halo: Campaign Evolved a Buy — 'well worth it' both for newcomers (including PS5 players getting Halo for the first time) and veterans returning with upgraded graphics and quality-of-life improvements. Also notes Game Pass availability lowers the entry cost.
Mack middle-thumbs Halo: Campaign Evolved at 5/10 — it looks fantastic and runs great, and it's worth a buy if you've never played Halo or haven't touched it in 20 years, but for veteran Halo fans it's the fourth release of the same game and he'd wait for a deep sale. 'Do something new.'
