Our analysis

Promising visual novel but convoluted narrative pacing.

Our analysis

A compelling, story-driven narrative adventure where weighty branching choices meaningfully shape the plot and encourage multiple playthroughs, carried by outstanding voice acting and distinctive semi-3D backgrounds. Gameplay is limited to advancing dialogue and menu-based decisions, and repeated character models and stances can clash with the dialogue, alongside a heavier reliance on reading than the studio's prior work. Even so, it delivers an immersive, charming experience that leaves you wanting more.

Our analysis

A visual-novel-leaning narrative game from Don't Nod with a compelling first half, where a personal story of grief, family, and a supernatural pantheon of Aspirations shines through strong writing and voice acting. The Augural flowchart that lets you plan choices ahead is conceptually intriguing, but the crystal-currency system makes paths feel restrictive, favoring head over heart and often leaving only one viable option. Later chapters drift into distant macro-events and a somewhat unearned ending, undercutting the otherwise precious characters and vibrant hand-drawn presentation.
