3 of 3A still stupidly-fun kart racer that is technically impressive, visually stunning, and packed with a huge variety of courses, with the anti-gravity tracks standing out as spectacular. It is held back by light single-player content, occasionally lopsided item balance, and a frustrating lack of multiplayer options, especially the two fixed item slots, no battle-mode elimination, and limited bot and CPU controls. The core racing remains a blast, but the surrounding package needs more flexibility.
Solid fun port with all DLC packed in; best on Switch but lacks innovation; benefits from multiplayer.
The definitive, ultimate edition of an already outstanding kart racer, bundling all Wii U content and DLC with new characters and refinements. It runs at a clean 1080p/60fps docked and looks great in handheld, adds welcome accessibility options like auto-accelerate and smart steering, and most importantly overhauls the battle mode with dedicated arenas and modes such as Renegade Roundup. For Switch owners it's a no-brainer must-have.

Scott The Woz👍 positive
“Scott considers Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the best Mario Kart at the time of release due to significant improvements like a fixed battle mode, improved handling, and the full game on a portable system. However, he expresses disappointment at the lack of new race tracks and single-player content, noting it feels too much like the original Mario Kart 8 rather than a fresh experience.”

“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains a polished, well-refined racing experience after 10 years of development with tightly-designed courses packed with gimmicks. Better suited for those seeking pure competitive racing, though its smaller content volume pales beside World's ambitious scope.”
