A massive, beautiful Switch 2 showpiece that reinvents the series around a single contiguous open world, with roller-coaster-like tracks full of surprises, an enormous roster with unlockable costumes, and new mechanics like the charge jump and stunting. The standout Knockout Tour mode and revitalized battle mode shine, especially in 24-player online play. Minor gripes include opaque unlock systems, sparse free-roam content, inconsistent matchmaking waits, and courses that sometimes blur into one another, but it stands among the best in the series.
