Saints Row: The Third

A genuinely fun open-world sandbox that finally fills a genre gap on Switch, with an enormous amount of customization, content, and ridiculous activities to fill a hundred hours. Portability is wonderful, but performance is the major drawback: frame rate swings and input lag undermine the precision aiming and make driving harder, and the lack of motion controls disappoints. Handheld runs surprisingly better than docked. Worth it for the portability, but cheaper and smoother on other platforms.

A disappointing sequel that loses the charm and balance that made Saints Row 2 great. The campaign is shorter and padded, side activities and competitive multiplayer were stripped out and replaced with duller ones, the three gangs blend into one, and the writing leans on shock value over clever missions. Fun in spurts, but fans are better off buying the cheaper Saints Row 2 or waiting for a price drop.
