Shadow of the Tomb Raider

A soulless, formulaic outing that wastes a strong premise on tedious, repetitive design. The graphics are excellent and the PC options and rebinding are solid, but the gameplay is a string of identical zones (hunting, stealth, climbing, underwater) strung together by linear tunnels, with trivial stealth combat and rote rope-and-arrow puzzles. The story is lackluster and the once-tough Lara is reduced to a hand-held, hollow shell of her former self.

A creatively bankrupt finale that fails to justify its origin-story trilogy framing, with a Lara Croft who comes across as both boring and oddly psychotic. The plot rushes through its threads in a slapdash conclusion, and the gameplay offers almost nothing new beyond foliage stealth, leaving a shallow, artificial world built around scripted set pieces.

A polished, beautiful, and intense entry worth playing, especially for fans of the reboot trilogy, with improved stealth combat and a strong Lara-Jonah relationship. However, it plays things too safe and fails to innovate, while the muddled Trinity storyline and anticlimactic conclusion hold it back. Missing series staples and the absence of the iconic double pistols feel like missed opportunities.

A satisfying and fun trilogy finale that delivers a more lethal Lara, freer stealth, and a nastier, gorier tone alongside dense new hub towns and the strongest optional tombs in the series. It looks fantastic despite being the least polished of the three, with more glitches and minor framerate dips. It plays largely the same as before, so it won't win over newcomers, but fans will love it.

While it brings little new to the table, its quality and polish put it above its predecessors, making it Lara's finest adventure yet. Fantastic level design, a satisfying sense of exploration and discovery, engaging stealth, and a strong Lara-Jonah relationship stand out, while flexible per-category difficulty options are a smart touch. The combat is basic and the story simple, but well-paced sequencing keeps it consistently enjoyable.
