Sniper Elite 4

A competent stealth-sniper entry whose best moments come from embracing the satisfying, gory sniping with its iconic kill cam and excellent hit detection. The expansive playground-style missions reward creative infiltration, but the experience is dragged down by a forgettable, off-putting story, weak voice acting, and elementary enemy AI that's easy to exploit. Solid for fans of the formula, though it does little to evolve and is starting to show its age.

Not worth a buy. The huge, detailed maps and the satisfying physics of judging bullet drop for a perfect headshot are the only redeeming qualities, but they wear thin fast. Atrocious, near-blind enemy AI plus the wall-hack X-ray tagging needed for ranging strip away any challenge, turning even hard mode into a trivial, hand-holding experience.

The best entry in the series so far on Switch, taking the established sniping formula and opening it up into a freeform, Hitman-like sandbox that shines especially in co-op. Standout touches include enemy bios that humanize targets, excellent net code with on-the-fly saves, near-instant load times, and strong weapon audio, with only minor clipping and the odd resolution dip. The main gripe is value: a higher price than earlier entries and no deluxe edition bundling the DLC, so completionists could spend a lot more.

A strong, fun entry that comes into its own. The shift to larger, semi-open maps makes approaching objectives completely nonlinear and rewarding, with sniping backed by plenty of gadgets and close-quarters options, plus a satisfying co-op campaign and a survival horde mode. The story is bare-bones and forgettable, the AI isn't fully convincing, and progression feels weak, but the sandbox core loop is excellent, especially on hard difficulty.
