  Our analysis

A decent Sonic game with excellent music, fast gameplay, and a return to series roots, but held back by control issues, sloppy level design, tedious tasks, and disappointing boss encounters. The reviewer appreciates it more on subsequent playthroughs but still finds the overall experience disappointing and dated compared to contemporaries.
