Strong remake blending retro aesthetics with modern convenience.

An impressive, faithful remake that captures the spirit of the original while leaning into survival-horror, with overhauled weapons that feel weighty and satisfying, a fantastic soundscape, and a standout SHODAN performance. Its biggest drawbacks stem from too much visual detail hurting readability and navigation, plus a recycling-and-vaporize loot economy that drags down exploration pacing. The cyberspace overhaul is a big improvement, though the FPS-in-cyberspace finale falters.

A wonderful way to experience one of the most well-regarded immersive sim FPS titles of all time, faithfully preserving the 1999 original while sharpening visuals and adding rock-solid 60fps performance. Atmospheric exploration of the Von Braun, flexible RPG-style character building, tense hacking, and a wealth of bonus vault material are major strengths; combat feels dated and the complex menus can be awkward on console controls.

A faithful, immersive remake of the sci-fi classic in the vein of Deus Ex, with great-looking pixelated-yet-3D visuals, excellent directional sound, smart maze-like level design, taxing puzzles and tense, deliberate first-person combat. Performance is the weak point, averaging around 45fps rather than the expected solid 60, though a patch is promised and the strong Joy-Con mouse support meaningfully mitigates the rough control feel. Still a thoroughly enjoyable game even in its current state, especially for thinking-player shooter fans.

A modernized remake that excels at tense exploration and atmosphere, with liberal, effective audio logs, a memorable Shodan, and creepy sci-fi sound design creating deep immersion. Combat is hamstrung by tight corridors, the sprawling maze-like areas make it easy to get lost with sometimes obscure objectives, and the junk-recycling inventory system trades fun for power. It is also less freeform than later immersive sims, but remains a genuinely fun, highly recommendable experience for those who don't mind occasionally needing a guide.

A surprisingly faithful, well-executed remake of an all-time classic, worth the long and troubled development. It preserves the original's modular difficulty, obscure no-handholding design, and labyrinthine Citadel Station while updating it with a striking hybrid art style, solid sound, and the still-chilling SHODAN. The lack of guidance and the near-mandatory keyboard-and-mouse controls (no real controller support, manual quick-saving) hold it back, but for fans of old-school immersive sims it's a fantastic, highly recommendable experience.
