Creative game with good ideas but linear design and tutorial-heavy story delivery hold it back.
Could have been great and should have been great from Arcane Studios, but falls short. Still a pretty decent game but nowhere near the 10/10 reviews suggest.
Disappointing immersive sim that fails to deliver on expected depth. Combat and traversal feel restrictive with linear level design, invisible walls, and limited exploration compared to Dishonored 2. Powers eventually unlock but gameplay depth never materializes as promised.
Time-loop concept fun but held back by shallow overpowered combat.
A controlled, chaotic good time from Arkane that uses time and repetition to build narratively and mechanically fascinating gameplay, with intricate, layered levels that grow as you learn them and a delightful arsenal of weapons and abilities. The standout invasion system, where Julianna hunts Colt, is genuinely tense and the best aspect. Progression stalls too early as Colt becomes nearly invincible, the AI is often braindead, and the audio-log-heavy story can feel dry, but none of it derails the experience.
Blake Hester gave Deathloop a 9 out of 10, calling it a great, refined stealth game from Arkane Studios with compelling protagonist banter, excellent lead tracking mechanics, and clever multiplayer integration. The game is one of the more approachable titles Arkane has made while remaining faithful to their design philosophy.
