Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

A great way to experience two classic RPGs, with the gorgeous HD-2D treatment shining brightest in towns and background details. Many quality-of-life additions make the old-school games far more accessible, though the persistently high random encounter rate remains the biggest sticking point. The shorter first game's solo-hero combat feels surprisingly fresh, making this an easy recommendation for RPG fans.

A heartfelt and impressive sendoff to the original trilogy that recaptures the originals' retro magic through the gorgeous HD-2D style. The first offers a tightly focused solo adventure while the second is a more expansive, story-driven party RPG, both holding up well with pure turn-based combat and welcome quality-of-life additions. Some uneven difficulty spikes persist, but it stands as a perfect tribute alongside the Dragon Quest 3 remake.
