Our analysis

A thoroughly underwhelming reboot whose supposed continuity reset ends up right back where Mortal Kombat 11 left off, dragging the franchise through the same recycled story beats. The campaign is riddled with plot holes and lazy writing, the roster blurs together with little visual distinction, and the new cameo assist system adds little of substance. Graphics, mechanics, and presentation all feel lackluster, with the Switch version singled out as especially rough.

Our analysis

Mortal Kombat 1 delivers polished presentation and strong combat, with Kameo fighters and air combos enabling creative strategies. Its story loses steam as the scope grows, while Invasions offers a promising new mode.

Our analysis

Mortal Kombat 1 has straightforward, tight and responsive combat built around simplicity, plus a cameo tag-in system that NetherRealm nailed and a cool new story with good characters. It is fun, though still another Mortal Kombat game at its core, and it has no cross play yet.

    Our analysis

A strong new era for the franchise with fresh character redesigns and exciting air combat mechanics. The campaign is excellent and story changes work well, but modes outside of campaign lack depth and replayability feels limited.
