Fantasy RPG with excellent exploration but uneven storytelling. Weak companion development.
A greatest-hits package of Western RPGs set in Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity world, blending influences from Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and others into something that feels distinctly its own. Exploration and ransacking are superbly executed, movement and first-person platforming feel exceptional, and the combat is far more rewarding than trailers suggested. The main reservation is a lack of clear identity, but the early hours are warm, inviting, and confidently put together.
A solid fantasy RPG with strong world-building, meaningful story choices, excellent exploration and loot variety that appeals to both newcomers and longtime Pillars of Eternity fans. Combat mechanics lack depth compared to character customization options, and gear-based progression sometimes gates story progress.
Holds promise on multiple fronts but struggles to follow through. Impactful combat and creative options are hamstrung by reliance on gear upgrades and scarce resources that prevent fully enjoying the creative freedom it advertises. World is fun to explore but story fails to wrap with a captivating tale or satisfying conclusion. Woefully balanced with persistent frustration leaning towards the climax. Presents as new-age fantasy RPG but unlikely to have lasting impact.
