12 of 12Wonderful RPG with excellent dialogue choices and no microtransactions. Genuinely refreshing.
Beautiful sci-fi RPG with stunning art direction. Hub-based world feels larger than it is.
The Outer Worlds Revives Its Genre In One Brilliant Stroke is a positive game with interesting mechanics and well-crafted systems.
Definitely worth buying and one of the best RPGs in a while, even if it falls short of the loftiest praise. It delivers proper RPG depth: meaningful attributes and perks, extensive fully-voiced branching dialogue, the freedom to kill nearly anyone, and fun, clean gunplay with upgradeable weapons and a satisfying bullet-time. Drawbacks include an oversaturated, headache-inducing color palette, small and somewhat artificial-feeling worlds, plenty of fetch quests, and unskippable companion-ability cutscenes.
The base game remains one of the easiest RPG recommendations going, with fantastic characters and smartly structured expansions like the excellent Murder on Eridanos. The Spacer's Choice Edition remaster, however, is a disappointment: it runs noticeably worse than the original even on capable hardware, its enhanced visuals look no better and sometimes worse, and the supposedly improved AI is actually broken. Play the original and its DLC, but avoid the remaster in its current state.
Impressive Switch port of a great game despite visual compromises.
Excellent RPG gameplay hindered by poor visual quality, texture issues, and loading problems despite strong writing and mechanics.
Fallout-inspired space RPG with solid writing; combat AI issues and contrived ending.
Compelling RPG with exceptional voice acting, deep branching story and great replayability; combat feels unpolished and world design is uneven.
Before You Buy: complete single-player RPG with excellent character building and replayability.
AJ Angry Review: solid RPG with great story and impactful branching choices; bare progression and short campaign.
