An accessible, deeply engaging strategy game whose hex grid and one-unit-per-tile combat are a major leap, opening up flanking and tactical depth like a game of chess. City states, easy mod support, and a fantastic soundtrack add lasting appeal, and even a series newcomer found it wildly addictive. Multiplayer is a weak point with missing combat animations and no clear save option, and diplomacy is shallow.
