A buy: excellent turn-based alien-versus-human combat where new stealth, destructible cover, and improved flanking AI make every mission tense. Harshly timed missions restrict strategy and the camera is a fight, but the brutal, final-feeling difficulty is what XCOM fans expect.

Mack calls XCOM 2 one of the best turn-based strategy games he has played and praises its in-depth research and crafting and the full control it gives the player. He dislikes the mission timers and notes some clipping bugs, but says it is definitely worth buying.

XCOM 2 is a tense tactical sequel with a strong story, a Doomsday Clock that keeps the pressure on, varied mission design and more flexible soldier classes. It is sometimes borderline unfairly difficult but never boring, and Jake says he loves it.
