Two brilliant games in one package, delivering more of what fans love while being visually, narratively, and historically deeper than ever before. The Meiji-era Japan and Victorian England setting is richly researched with a fantastic localization, stunning backgrounds, and clever new courtroom and investigation mechanics. Heavy reliance on Japanese cultural in-jokes, a small recurring cast, and coyness about its secrets are minor drawbacks against a thoughtful, gorgeously remastered experience.
A fantastic package bundling two prequel titles with genuinely interesting, humorous stories that balance serious murder cases with trademark over-the-top reactions. The courtroom and investigation gameplay is extremely enjoyable, the menu-based controls work well (minus a few missing quality-of-life options), and the beautiful 3D character models bring a memorable cast to life. Audio is merely serviceable, but with 50 to 60 hours of content below the AAA threshold the value is outstanding.
