Our analysis

A worthy third entry in the Calvard arc that feels more grounded and structured than Daybreak 2, helped by weaving three simultaneous character storylines from different arcs. The flexible action/turn-based hybrid combat is a highlight, and the topic-driven investigations remain a strong, free-flowing system. Pacing and filler in some chapters drag it down, the engine and draw distance are poor, and the Switch 2 price bump feels unjustified, but it is a good, lengthy 50-70 hour JRPG and a solid conclusion.

Our analysis

An enthralling sci-fi fantasy RPG that weaves the plot-heavy stories of three protagonists into one adventure, refining the Daybreak Saga's hybrid action and turn-based combat with clever new shard commands, awakenings, and bonus-stealing mechanics. The deep side quests, bonding events, and flexible quartz customization shine, though the LGC morality system regresses and the lengthy main route is slow to build. Newcomers will be lost, but the divisive cliffhanger sets up an exciting future.

Trails Beyond the Horizon is far from my favorite Trails game, but it did enough to be honest.
