9 of 9Solid AC title with improved stealth mechanics though still has Ubisoft quirks.
Reinvigorated feudal Japan entry with two distinct protagonists. Engrossing world and mechanics.
Largest tech uplift since AC Unity with best-in-class ray-traced GI. One of best looking 2025 games.
Ambitious Sengoku Japan setting but dual protagonists and complex storytelling overwhelm. Best and worst AC.
A festering, utterly boring entry that ranks among the worst Assassin's Creed games. The combat is a shallow left-click spam-fest with red/blue flash parrying lifted from Ghost of Tsushima but done far worse, padded out with endless cutscenes, tedious busywork like tea ceremonies and animal-painting, X-ray-vision stealth, and aggressive Helix Points monetization. Story, characters, voice acting, and world all fall flat; the only redeemable feature is rebindable keys.
A vast, generous feudal-Japan adventure and perhaps Ubisoft's most spectacular open world, reworking exploration around clues and an observe mechanic rather than hand-holding markers. Dual protagonists Naoe and Yasuke offer distinct stealth-versus-tank playstyles, backed by a stunning, destructible world and grounded combat. The lengthy midsection sags as focus drifts from their personal stories, but it's a polished, largely standalone entry that rewards long-term play.
A well-crafted port with notable visual compromises but engaging gameplay. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition required significant optimization work and shows visual degradation from other platforms.
Naoes Shinobi gameplay transforms missions into rewarding puzzles and her fluid movements through wondrous 16th-century Japan make for a beautiful journey. Seasonal changes add interesting consideration for how missions can be tackled. Yasukes Samurai gameplay cuts too much away from the Assassins Creed formula and the longest story arc feels muddled and directionless. The best the series has felt since transitioning to action-RPG.
A visually impressive but structurally flawed action-stealth game with solid mechanics undermined by poor narrative pacing, repetitive missions, and design inconsistencies that frustrate rather than reward careful play.

“The game offers beautiful visuals and good soundtrack but suffers from a clichéd story, generic characters, repetitive gameplay, and poor level design. It's more of the same formula as previous entries, appealing mainly to fans of Odyssey and Valhalla.”

“A solid entry in the long-running franchise with compelling stealth mechanics and an interesting dual-character system, though held back by repetitive mission structure and the Yasuke character undermining the core Assassin's Creed identity.”
Watch - CClick4Gameplay😐 mixed
“The creator finds Assassin's Creed Shadows to be a severe step backward in nearly every way compared to previous AC titles — featuring terrible writing, unbalanced combat with no unique boss mechanics, broken AI, and an empty open world. Despite some decent graphics and weapon variety, the game is fundamentally broken and unpolished.”
Watch - SSheshounet👎 negative
“An improvement over Mirage with better polish and density, but lacks the freedom and refinement of earlier Assassin's Creed titles. The game suffers from repetitive gameplay, poor side content design, and missing features from older entries.”
Watch - BBacklog Battle👍 positive
“A stealth and action Assassin's Creed game featuring two playable characters (kunoichi and samurai) that blends the series' past and present gameplay styles.”
Watch - SSensession👍 positive
“Assassin's Creed Shadows is an excellent entry that successfully revitalizes the franchise with improved combat mechanics, dual-character gameplay, and stunning feudal Japan visuals. While not perfect and occasionally losing narrative momentum, it delivers a deeply engaging experience that rivals Ghost of Tsushima with its own Ubisoft twist.”
Watch - SSavun👍 positive
“A solid, well-polished Assassin's Creed entry that delivers enjoyable gameplay despite lacking transcendent innovation. The reviewer found it to be the most refined among the RPG-era AC games and their second favorite in the series after Origins.”
Watch - Qquaz9😐 mixed
“Assassin's Creed Shadows is a competent but formulaic entry that iterates on the established Ubisoft formula. While stealth mechanics and character backstories have merit, the game suffers from exhausting map-clearing busywork and a lack of meaningful innovation.”
Watch - TThe Enemy😐 mixed
“A good game with a beautiful world, engaging story, and well-developed characters, but held back by repetitive gameplay mechanics and lack of innovation compared to previous entries in the series.”
Watch - TTierraGamer👍 positive
“A well-crafted game with excellent gameplay mechanics and beautiful representation of Japan, though it suffers from repetitive design and predictable storytelling common to the series.”
