He roasts Overwatch's modes, maps, heroes, and reliance on teammates, yet closes by saying he loves it. The final verdict embraces the same frustrations that fuel the review's satire.
Our analysis
Polished team arena shooter with rich lore but excessive casual catering and limited content.

ACG verdict: Buy. Most gamers will get their money's worth and then some.
Our analysis
Worth buying — a brilliant, highly polished team-based shooter that rewards tactical thinking over individual kills. Its 21 distinct heroes let you swap on the fly to counter the enemy's setup, and the objective modes plus deep team coordination give it surprising depth beneath a deceptively shallow surface. The excellent options and accessible, casual feel are strong positives; some heroes feel overpowered and loot boxes are present, but the cosmetic-only contents make that a non-issue.
Our analysis
In a head-to-head against Battleborn, Overwatch is plainly the more fun of the two hero shooters, throwing all its content and characters at you immediately and offering a practice range to learn each hero, whose three or four refined skills make them excel at one role. The downsides are the lack of any real story beyond a website blurb, cynically focus-grouped archetype characters, and a stingy cosmetic-only loot system — plus reservations about full price with microtransactions on top for a multiplayer-only game.
Our analysis
A highly polished, addictive and genuinely fun casual shooter that is best in short bursts and welcoming to all skill levels, with 21 expertly crafted heroes as its greatest strength and excellent teamwork-encouraging design. It is held back by being light on content — only a few modes, no meaningful PvE, no ranked at launch — plus some balance problems like stacking six of one hero, and random cosmetic loot boxes that feel wrong. At its premium price it comes across as overpriced and not the flawless game many claimed.
Our analysis
A joyful, endlessly replayable arena shooter that, while heavily inspired by Team Fortress 2 and '90s shooters, perfects the feel of its 21 distinct heroes and their abilities. The standout is mid-match hero switching, which keeps composition and strategy fluid and rewards constant learning. Blizzard's responsive communication and ongoing balancing give confidence the meta will stay fresh, though there's mild worry the developer dialogue could dry up post-launch.

SomeCallMeJohnny praises Overwatch as an accessible and enjoyable team-based FPS with exceptional art direction, diverse and well-animated characters, and solid gameplay mechanics that reward both casual and dedicated players. He recommends it as a good entry point into the FPS genre, particularly for those looking for something bright and welcoming rather than the typical grittier shooter aesthetic.
