The semi-linear world rewards exploration and the soundtrack is sublime, though visuals are slightly blurry with asset pop-in as it pushes the Switch to its limit. Strongly recommended for RPG fans.

One of the best JRPGs on the Switch, elevated by classic demon negotiation and deep fusion systems that give enormous freedom in shaping your team against punishing bosses. The story takes intriguing dark turns and the world building is rich, though it leans heavily on grinding, suffers noticeable visual pop-in, and the silent protagonist feels off-putting amid a fully voiced cast.

Essentially Persona stripped of the vibrant visual design, engaging characters, and lively energy that make that series appealing, leaving a meaty but dry combat challenge. The plot feels lofty and emotionless, the mute high-school protagonist is unrelatable, and exploration is dragged down by dreary, confusingly laid-out environments. The demon-collecting and negotiation aspect is the one genuinely charming, humorous bright spot.

An uncompromising, fiercely difficult JRPG whose intricate combat reinforces every other system, paired with fluid, platformer-like exploration across a strikingly designed post-apocalyptic world. The narrative loses momentum in its second half and side quests are forgettable, with environments leaning too heavily on rubble and sand. Still, its bleak honesty and depth make it singular and deeply satisfying.
