Far Cry: Primal

A surprisingly unique entry that succeeds through subtraction, set in a beautifully realized prehistoric world with outstanding animation, atmosphere, dynamic location-based music, and impressively invented tribal dialects. Exploration on foot or atop tamable beasts is a genuine highlight, and the creature-taming system effectively turns animals into weapons. The early one-handed melee combat lacks satisfying impact and nighttime can feel punishing, but spears, bows, and the massive world make this a confident buy.

Worth a buy per WAB.

ZP: animal companions break balance; tedious predator hunts.

Offers enough unique elements through caveman setting and Metroidvania progression to differentiate from standard Far Cry formula, but feels more of the same. May fatigue players tired of the series.
