Our analysis
A cut above and among the very best in the series, expanding on Yakuza 7's RPG experiment with improved, more strategic turn-based combat that adds positioning and movement. Honolulu is a great new setting, the character writing and friendship system are fantastic and genuinely funny, and the massive side games like Sujimon and Dondoko Island feel like full games of their own. Pacing drags in the slow early hours, and locking New Game Plus behind a paid special edition is a cynical low point, but the PC port runs excellently.
Our analysis
GameSpot: emotional swan song for Kiryu despite villain weakness; signature Yakuza hijinks and poignant messages.
