Impressive remake with modern engine but stylistic homogenization diminishes original charm.
Our analysis
A functional and equivalent Switch port of the first Yakuza remake that is ultimately a mixed bag. The fully realized 3D Tokyo streets are atmospheric and the four-style brawling combat is genuinely fun when given room to flow, but an overabundance of cutscenes, brutal difficulty spikes, and constant random battles and fetch quests repeatedly break the pace and sap goodwill. A reasonable starting point for newcomers, though those wanting a tighter experience may look elsewhere.
Our analysis
A highly recommendable remake with style and flair, a rich, film-like story, and a deep, fun combat system spanning multiple fighting styles and the bizarre but clever Majima Everywhere mechanic, backed by a vibrant city full of side content and an excellent soundtrack. Performance is the weak point, with frame pacing hitches and stutters in the streets that need a patch, though it remains passable and offers strong value.
