Our analysis

A decent entry in the franchise that trades the usual cityscapes for a sun-soaked tropical island setting, which gives it plenty of character and visual appeal. The pacing feels bloated at times, and a recast among the cast proved divisive, but the package still delivers familiar brawling fun for series fans.

Our analysis

A much-needed retooling of the underrated Yakuza 3 that dramatically speeds up its formerly sluggish combat, smooths out the story's pacing, and showcases a refreshing remodeled Okinawa setting. The reworked orphanage sections become genuinely engaging through clever mini-games. However, the new Bad Boy Dragon biker mode feels half-baked and repetitive, and the Dark Ties add-on is dragged down by tiresome padding, leaving the overall package less well-rounded than the series' best entries.

Our analysis

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties pairs a largely great remake with a compelling new campaign that deepens its villain. Modernized combat and expanded orphanage activities shine, while questionable story changes and casting decisions tarnish the experience.
