Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Beyond Light feels more like demolition than creation, vaulting huge swaths of content while adding relatively little, and it fumbles the long-awaited arrival of the Darkness by reducing it to just another subclass. The Stasis powers are a highlight and the core gunplay and endgame remain top-notch, but aggressive sunsetting and a punishing materials grind make the game feel like it only speaks to its most hardcore players. Not recommended for newcomers or lapsed players, though it lays bold foundations for the franchise's future.

More of what Destiny 2 does well. Satisfying shooting, inventive raid, refreshing stasis. Lingering repetitive content and grinds. Best-told story in franchise.
