3 of 3A genuinely good expansion undermined by one of the franchise's most disappointing campaign storylines, built around the never-explained Veil and an out-of-place comedic tone. The Strand subclass is a transformative high point and the mission design ranges from good to excellent, while quality-of-life additions like loadouts are welcome. The threadbare narrative, lack of new PvP and Gambit content, and hollowed-out mod system hold it back.
This penultimate expansion is a strong reminder of what keeps players hooked: best-in-class shooter mechanics, satisfying Supers, and the fun new Strand subclass with its grappling-hook momentum. The new Neomuna destination and a higher overall difficulty, including the nasty Tormentor enemies, freshen things up, and the central villains land well. Onboarding and catch-up for lapsed or new players remain clunky, and the monetization carries some nuance, but the core loot-and-shoot loop is as addictive as ever.
An underwhelming expansion that fails to reach the bar set by The Witch Queen. The strand subclass, gameplay tweaks, and revamped build-crafting are genuinely satisfying, and the legendary campaign has exhilarating moments. But it is dragged down by a vague, hollow story, a wasted villain in Calus, and a beautiful yet lifeless Neptune destination that lacks any real X factor.
